So, it’s only natural that we highly value having someone who allows us to freely express our feelings and thoughts, without judging us. Too often, we hold back, because we have to be careful about what we reveal and to whom. For example, you probably don’t want to discuss your love life with your business partner, nor discuss a business option with your mother. There are definitely times when reaching out to an impartial, objective professional can be very helpful.  

I’m so happy to see more people taking advantage of this invaluable resource for bettering their lives. That’s a courageous step! Do you try to “fake it till you make it?” I think this philosophy can either be helpful or harmful. For some people, it means screwing up their courage to do something they know they’re capable of doing; they just need the confidence to take the first step. For other people, they really are faking it, in the sense of not being real or true to their authentic self. They’re trying to be someone they’re not, and their push to be that “other person” sets them up for yet another “failure,” which leaves them feeling like a fraud.

Have you ever noticed how people hate or get irritated by the qualities in others that they themselves unknowingly possess? Take for example, Don, the husband of a close friend. He’s always making comments like, “I can’t stand people who are so controlling,” or “That woman has a control issue, for sure!” He adamantly proclaims that he hates men who control women, but those around him glance at each other with knowing looks, because we see him trying to control his wife and kids in little ways all the time.
