Move Your Body
Awareness through movement
These introspective movement lessons are a tool to learn about yourself and how you move. They are taught in a self-paced, non-judgmental atmosphere, respecting your body’s limits while at the same time introducing new movement patterns. They provide an opportunity to discover natural, comfortable movement and develop a clearer image of yourself. Many people report that they find themselves doing things that they couldn’t do before. No experience is necessary to start – you go at your own pace with support from the teacher.
The Feldenkrais Method of Somatic Education
The Feldenkrais Method is a form of somatic education that uses gentle movement and directed attention to improve movement and enhance human functioning. Through this Method, you can increase your ease and range of motion, improve your flexibility and coordination, and rediscover your innate capacity for graceful, efficient movement. These improvements will often generalize to enhance functioning in other aspects of your life. The Method is taught in two formats:
Awareness Through Movement (ATM) lessons employ innovative, sophisticated movement sequences which address every area of the body and all aspects of human functioning. Using a combination of guided attention and pleasant, purposeful movement, each lesson reveals the essential dynamic relationships in a particular pattern of movement or action to improve physical, emotional and mental functioning. It is applicable to anyone wanting to enhance the quality of his or her everyday life and activities.
In a Functional Integration lesson you typically lie on a low, padded table wearing loose, comfortable clothing. The practitioner uses gentle touch to explore your habitual patterns of organization and movement, and to suggest easier and more functional ways of being. Each lesson is adapted to your specific needs; there is no set sequence or number of lessons.
The fee for a 60-minute lesson is $125 ($500 for 5 pre-paid lessons).
